Our History

ATP ATRS was founded in 1969 by Alan Smart, who is the current owner and Chairman. The company’s roots lie in Alan’s fascination with American cars and recognising that there was a niche market for repairing automatic transmissions. The former coal mining engineer Alan started work from the kitchen floor.

The business has since evolved considerably from a garage operation to an award-winning, a state-of-the-art remanufacturing business.

To support the developing material handling sector, ATP Industrial Transmissions Ltd. was incorporated in 1980 and in 1985 ATP Electronics was launched to carry out the repair of ECU’s which at that time were very much in their infancy.

Since those early beginnings ATP Group has evolved and grown into a market leading, world class remanufacturing company with a global presence and an enviable client list including Ford, Volvo, Fiat-Chrysler, Aston Martin, JCB and many others.

Today, ATP employs almost 200 staff and exports to over 35 countries worldwide from 3 sites located in the UK, China and the USA.
